One






“Ring, ring, ring”
“Oh, shoot,” I thought out loud. I zipped around a corner and jerked to a stop. Towering above me was Miss Riley.
“Late again, Natalie?” she asked waiting for an answer.
“Yes... yes ma’am,” I stammered.
“I hate to do this to you but, detention it is. You we’re so good about getting to school on time. Do you need me to talk to your parents or anything?”
“No it’s okay.”
“Well, then take your seat.” I made my way to the back of the room. It was awkward, everyone was starring at me. Sitting right in front of me was Emily, my best friend.
“Detention?” Emily asked.
“Yeah,” I whispered back.
“Bummer.”
“I know.”
“Be quiet Natalie and Emily,” Miss Riley snapped.
The rest of class was pretty boring, except for when we talked about dissecting frogs. I can’t wait for that, though I feel bad for the frogs. Those poor little things, they’ll never know what hit them.
