Another Part of My Story

This is Chapter 3!!!

By Jessica Watts
Chapter 3: Me+School= Big Problems
I rubbed my eyes, muttered to myself, and sprinted to the schoolyard. Millions of kids were sitting at the fountains and benches. I could see that most of them were studying arithmetic books. Suddenly, a shrill bell sounded and the students went pouring into the Middle School. Lincoln Middle School, to be exact. I slipped into the crowd and made my way through the mass of yelling people.
As soon as I got inside the warm haven, I pulled my schedule  out of my navy blue Jansport backpack. Lets see, I said to myself. First up...... Mr. Smith with History. I groaned. History was the most boring out of all the subjects. I looked around the halls for room 222.
The ceiling reached 4 stories high! There were at least 5 chandeliers in every hallway, with fake lightbulb candles. Everywhere I looked were doors. Literally everywhere! Hmm......... I thought. Room 678?!?!?! Where is my classroom!?!?!?!?!
"Hey!" somebody said behind me. I whirled around to see a girl, about 13, with long blonde hair set in a ponytail. "Um," I stammered. "H-hi." Now you can see why I don't have very many friends. "Do you need help?" she asked. I swallowed the pit in my throat and said yes. "Whose class do you have?" she asked. "Mr. Smith, room 222." my voice finally came back.
"I have him, too!" she smiled. "I'll lead you to him!" She started walking, and so did I. We found the classroom and went through the door. There were tables of two people and she went ahead and sat right down next to a Chinese girl with dark black hair and jet-blue eyes. I rolled my eyes and sat at an empty desk.
As soon as a did, the door swung open and an older man came bursting in. He had wrinkles all over his tan face and him mouth was set in a grim line. "I hope none of you are late again today!" he grunted in a deep voice. We all nodded. "Good then," he said. "I'd like to introduce you to a young lady named Emma Rodriguez! Will you please come up Emma?"
I blushed, then walked up to the front of the room. One kid even threw a spitball at me! I glared at him angrily. This was already bad enough! "Please sit down!" Mr. Smith told me after what seemed like an hour. "Ok now!" he said. "Everybody turn to page-" he was cut off by someone running through our door. It was a girl with lengthy dark brown hair that were pulled into two braids. She ran to the desk I was sitting at and sat down. I could hear her panting right next to my ear.
"Stephanie!" Mr. Smith shouted at her. "You're late again!!!!!!!!!"
"Look," the girl said. "I'm sorry! PLEASE don't give me detention again! My mom would kill me!!! Look, I even have a note!!!!!" She pulled something out of her backpack and handed it to the teacher. Mr. Smith looked it over. He wore a puzzled expression. "Get Tabitha's lunch money to make up for mine....." he started to read. "WRONG ONE!" Stephanie grabbed the paper out of his hands. "Here!" she gave him an ivory-colored piece of stationary and sat down with a smug grin.
Mr. Smith nodded and read the note. He suddenly turned pale and gave it back to her. "Certainly." he said solemnly. "No more detention." The buzz of talking spread across the room. Stephanie is a genius! How did she do that?!?!?! As soon as Mr. Smith started to  drone on about the Revolutionary War, I leaned over and whispered to Stephanie "I'm new here. My name is Emma. How did you get you mom to sign that?" "Come to my house after school and I'll show you!" she whispered back. She handed me a slip of paper folded in half. "Call me!" she whispered again.
I opened the paper and saw the digits: 486-8268. I put the paper in my pocket and smiled. This might be a pretty good school year! Little did I know, Stephanie was leading me to utter chaos!
